Upcoming exhibitions
The Museum will play host to Afghanistan: Hidden Treasures from the National Museum, Kabul, an exhibit that presents a rich picture of Afghanistan’s cultural heritage and attests to the region’s importance as a vital and ancient crossroad of trade routes known as the Silk Road. The exhibit runs from October 22, 2009 – March 28, 2010. The Horse exhibition explores the ways humans have shaped horses, and horses, in turn, have shaped culture vis à vis warfare, trade, transportation, agriculture and many other facets of human life. The exhibit runs from May 13, 2010 – October 17, 2010. From November 18, 2010 – September 5, 2011, Canadian Arctic Expedition, 1913 – 1918 features the first Canadian multi-facetted scientific expedition to the Canadian Arctic. It will tell the story of the expedition and its impact, and focus on the themes of exploration. From April 2011 – October 2011, Alexander the Great showcases 500 artifacts from the 5th century BCE to the 19th century CE, intended to show the life and myth of Alexander the Great and the cultural, social and artistic impacts brought about by his military and political conquests.

In the summer of 2010, Pop Life: Art in a Material World comes to Ottawa. This dazzling exhibition from Tate Modern is making its only North American stop at the National Gallery of Canada. See works by the grandfather of Pop, Andy Warhol, alongside Jeff Koons, Damien Hirst, Keith Haring, Takashi Murakami and other celebrity artists. The Gallery will host Caravaggio and His Circle in Rome, June 10 – September 11, 2011—not since Michelangelo or Raphael has one artist in Europe affected so many of his contemporaries and over such a broad geography, and irrevocably changed the course of painting in a major center. From June 8, 2012 – September 3, 2012, Vincent van Gogh: Reframing Nature explores the artist’s representation of nature in particular his innovative use of the close-up.




NATIONAL ARTS CENTRE
The National Arts Centre presents The Prairie Scene in 2011 featuring artists from Manitoba and Saskatchewan. There is a lineup of pops concerts for 2010 featuring King of Swing: a Tribute to Benny Goodman, Guys and Dolls in Concert, and Music and Magic.

Upcoming exhibitions
A Brush with War: Military Art from Korea to Afghanistan will be on display at the Canadian War Museum from February 5, 2010 – May 2, 2010. The works of artists associated with an official military art program depicting conflict and peacekeeping missions from 1946 to 2008.




LIBRARY AND ARCHIVES CANADA
Adults and students alike will learn about Canada’s national collection of books, historical documents, government records, photos, films, maps, music…and more at Library and Archives Canada. Students at the Junior, Intermediate and Secondary levels can become artists, authors, musicians and actors during free creative workshops.
