Ottawa Tourism Awards 2010

The Ottawa Tourism Awards were held last night in the gorgeous Theatre of the Casino du Lac-Leamy. More than 200 tourism industry representatives gathered to honour the best and the brightest.

UrbanQuest.com, an urban treasure hunt, was named the New Company of the Year. Éco-Odyssée, a paddleboat experience, was also nominated.

The Innovation of the Year award was presented to Tours of Parliament-Library of Parliament, who streamlined their system for booking tours on Parliament Hill. Coventry Connections, who uses GPS technology to improve taxi service, was also a finalist.

The Event of the Year was a hotly contested category, with the 2009 IIHF World Junior Championship triumphing. Also in the running were the Camouflage exhibit at the Canadian War Museum, the 2009 Cisco Ottawa Bluesfest and the 2009 TD Canada Trust Ottawa International Jazz Festival.

The Ottawa International Airport Authority and Air Canada shared the Tourism Partnership of the Year award for their promotion of Ottawa-Frankfurt direct flights. The Downtown Rideau BIA and Arts Court collaboration on a summer theatre program in 2009; the National Capital Commission and 26 partners working together on the 2009 Genie Awards and the combination of a cycling event and chamber music performances by the Ottawa International Chamber Music Festival and the Rideau Canal Festival were also in the running.

The Tourism Volunteer of the Year was John Cosentino, General Manager of Albert at Bay Suite Hotel and Best Western Victoria Park Suites.

The Tourism Leader of the Year was Dick Brown, Executive Director of the Ottawa Gatineau Hotel Association.

Three other award winners were recognized at the event:
