Happy New Year! Ring in the New Year in style
The tradition for New Year’s Eve in Ottawa has long been one of house parties with friends or a night out in a bar or restaurant. To shake things up, last year, the Scottish Society of Ottawa attracted over 5,000 Scots and would-be Scots to kick off the New Year with Ottawa’s first-ever Hogmanay — a free outdoor family-oriented event outside Ottawa City Hall downtown. The second annual Hogmanay includes a mixture of licensed and family-friendly activities and celebrations with a Scottish twist, including legendary Wolfstone (a Celtic tinged rock band), pipe bands, Scottish dancers and fireworks. Kilts encouraged!
Sparks Street Village is an Ottawa landmark with impressive architecture and plenty of room for pedestrians and spectators to usher in the New Year. Just steps from Parliament Hill, enjoy live music, great food, local brews, hot chocolate, coffee and more… including a “Square Drop,” Ottawa’s version of the famous “Ball Drop” in New York City. This free admission outdoor celebration starts at 8pm.
