More EventsFarewell, Parliament Hill Cats! Beloved sanctuary is no more
The famous Parliament Hill Cat Sanctuary in Ottawa has come to an end. Since the 1970s, a colony of feral cats have been cared for by dedicated volunteers who constructed shelters, provided food and drink, and otherwise took care of these feline friends. Originally used to hunt mice in the halls of Parliament, the numbers of cats dwindled over the years due to a policy of spaying and neutering. Other animals were adopted into the volunteers’ homes. To spare the final four cats another cold winter season outside, the volunteers disbanded the sanctuary in early January 2013.
