Every year, travellers come from all over the globe to take part in the annual Winterlude celebration in Ottawa. This three-week festival is full of winter activities and fun, and children and their parents will not be able to miss the ice hogs - the annual festival's official mascots. People can spot Papa Ice Hog, Mama Ice Hog and their twins Nouma and Noumi all bundled up at the various events - don't forget to take a picture with them and give these furry animals a hug!
The ice hog legend dates back thousands of years when these furry creatures came out only for the cold, winter months. They loved the winter so much, that when they first heard of the Winterlude celebration 35 years ago, they decided to come and join the festivities every year.
Whether the children believe in the tale of the ice hog or not, there are plenty of signs and stories that go along with the legend and make for a fun experience for the whole family. Winterlude's 35th annual event takes place from February 1 to 18.
