Catch a rendition of the Nutcracker ballet while in Canada on holiday

When travellers think of seeing the Nutcracker ballet during the holiday season, it may bring them back to fond memories of childhood while enjoying this classic performance. Those journeying to Ontario and Quebec this winter may want to relive some of the magic by attending the Nutcracker again, or even experience it for the first time. This could be the perfect romantic evening for a couple or a fun activity for the little ones while on holiday in one of Canada's great cities.

The Nutcracker is about a little girl who receives a special gift for Christmas. Her wooden doll present magically comes to life, as do many other Christmas characters, and the girl is transported to a world of graceful dance, dastardly mice and a heroic Nutcracker prince. Dancers of all ages often play roles in the show, representing the party guests as well as magical creatures. Versions of the ballet have been adapted throughout the globe, and its wordless plot is easily understood and admired by international crowds.

From December 1st to the 4th, Canada's capital city will host Nutcracker performances at the National Arts Centre presented by the Pennsylvania Ballet. The venue's website says that most renditions will include a fun and festive celebration before the performance that encourages children to participate in holiday activities. Kids can enjoy dressing up like the characters, singing carols and sampling some tasty treats.

Later on during the month of December, travellers who journey to Montreal can see the Nutcracker performed by The Grand Canadian Ballet. Also based on the classic story, this show has been adapted to music and dance by choreographer Fernand Nault and composer Tchaikovsky. Children who attend the ballet in Montreal may have a unique chance to be a part of the actual show, for one is chosen every performance to be "Mouse for the Day" and is given a small role at the beginning of the presentation.

Those who miss these shows can still catch the Nutcracker in Toronto through January 3rd at The Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts. So no matter where Canadian travellers choose to visit for their holiday season, they are sure to have plenty of opportunities to see this fantastic ballet with loved ones while on vacation.
