Canada is a foodie's delight this winter

Canada is a foodie's delight this winterA great way to warm up while on vacation during the holiday season is to sample some of the delicious culinary delights in some cozy establishments in a few great cities. A warm meal that includes fresh ingredients and dishes created by some of the best chefs around can turn any blustery day into a wonderful warm evening. Not only do restaurants in Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal have some incredible culinary delights, but there are some great events happening this winter that revolve around the fantastic food that can be found in this region of Canada.

Toronto residents and those visiting the city from January 27 to February 9 can attend a spectacular event called Winterlicious. The program's website says that several restaurants gather together and create prix fixe menus at their establishments. Each location has the same pricing for three-course meals, so guests may sample a wide array of dishes.

One spot that will be participating is Arriba restaurant. This swanky establishment boasts trendy cuisine with a modern flair. The upcoming Winterlicious menu may include the restaurant's popular sweet potato and roasted garlic gnocchi or the Cornish hen stuffed with wild rice.

Montreal will be bringing its culinary prowess to the forefront during New Years. At the Confusion tapas restaurant, there will be a fantastic New Year's Eve gala, complete with sampling from their tasty and exotic menu. Guests can enjoy a special menu price for dinner, then stay for the cocktail party until the clock turns midnight. Confusion offers a wide selection of small plates for snacking and sharing with fellow travellers, including salmon with cardamom, seafood arancini and foie gras with cognac flavour.

Over in Canada's capital city, guests can take part in a fun foodie event that also gives back to the local community. The Red and The White is an annual event that benefits the local women's shelter called the Harmony House. Hosted at the beautiful St. Brigid's Centre for the Arts this January 18th, participants will be able to try some tasty cuisine prepared by Chef Michael Blackie of le Café and Laura Kirk from the Ruby Wacho restaurant. Tickets to the event include food, drink and the chance to win some culinary-themed prizes.

Also in Ottawa this winter will be other similarly tasty events such as WinterBites (prix fixe menus) January 12-28, 2012 and Taste of Winterlude (culinary experiences) January 26-February 20, 2012.

Check out some of Canada's great cuisine by attending one of these fabulous events this winter, which could be a wonderful way to explore these remarkable cities while on holiday.
