Visit one of Ottawa's maple farms this winter

Visit one of Ottawa's maple farms this winterOne thing many Ottawans agree on when it comes to cuisine is that a lot of dishes can be made better with maple syrup. There are some great areas around Ottawa that cultivate this sweet treat, welcoming guests to explore the grounds and sample some delicious items made from the processed tree sap. Travellers who are visiting Canada's capital city during the peak season, which runs from February to April, should check out some of these maple farms for a look into the natural beauty of the surrounding regions and this fun pastime.

Just outside of Ottawa in the town of Edwards is Stanley's Olde Maple Lane Farm. Throughout maple harvesting season, this complex is buzzing with guests of all ages who have come to enjoy all of the farm's fantastic activities.

The historical facility has been in business since the 1800s, providing maple syrup and other products to the area for generations. Guests can check out trees being tapped or the product building where the syrup, candies and more are made. Others may wish to have a homemade brunch at the on-site Pancake House, or take a sleigh ride through the forest while enjoying some fresh maple taffy.

Those who wish to stay within city limits while on holiday are in luck, as Ottawa boasts an 'urban' maple sugar shack in Richelieu Park. This wooded area in the city has a building that processes maple syrup harvested from more than 1,000 trees.

Not only can guests go and see the sugar shack during the peak season, but there are also several sponsored events happening throughout the winter and spring that welcome travellers to attend. For instance, the Soup Slash celebration occurs on March 28th this year and will feature some delicious maple-inspired dishes created by local cooks and professional chefs. There will also be a seniors' dinner and dance at the Pauline-Charron Centre on March 29th with plenty of maple-themed dishes to go around.

Cultivating maple syrup and learning about its uses can be an exciting attraction for whole families to enjoy together while on holiday. Couples may also check out some of these maple farms for a unique activity to do together for a fun getaway thrill. Either way, visitors to Ottawa during maple season are sure to have a memorable time at these classic and fun farms.
