Visiting vineyards, going on wine tours and attending celebrations of this classic beverage are popular ways to spend a holiday in new destinations. The Ottawa region has some wonderful vineyards to explore, especially as the weather starts to warm up in the spring and summer seasons. In the meantime, there is a great event happening this March in the city that wine connoisseurs from across the country will be attending to sample some wonderful North American wines.

The Californian Wine Fair will occur in locations across Canada throughout the spring. The tour kicks off in Ottawa on March 31st and will then travel to other locales, including Montreal, Toronto and Halifax. This fair has been a popular event in the wine world for more than three decades, exposing individuals to many different varieties from traditional vineyards and new wineries on the scene.

In the evening, guests will be able to learn about the wines available from various regions in California during an official sampling and lecture period. If travellers happen to be directly involved in the industry, they can show up early and take part in the trade tasting to meet other winery owners and retail professionals.
Dozens of vineyards are slated to participate in this celebration of all things wine related. For instance, guests will have the opportunity to try some of the wines offered by Perry Creek Vineyards, Cline Cellars, Chateau St. Jean and the Seghesio Family Vineyards.

If travellers are in the area this summer for the wine tour and wish to see some local Canadian vineyards, there are several to choose from within a few hours of Canada's capital city. For instance, east of Ottawa is the Vankleek Hill Vineyard, which, despite being fairly new to the industry, has impressed with its different types of red and white wines. Guests who call ahead may reserve times for wine tastings inside the charming onsite store, which also features the latest bottles created from Servengy, Frontenac Gris and Frontenac grapes. The grounds can be toured as well, which look like a traditional French vineyard with countless rows of vines along rolling green hills.

Incorporating wine tours, events and tastings in a new destination can be a great way to try fresh varieties and have a relaxing time on vacation.
