Some dancing is easily recognisable for its connection to a rich cultural tradition, such as Irish step dance. For the past 17 years, Riverdance has taken the world by storm with its demonstrations of Irish dance and music. A cast of more than a dozen professional artists play live instrumental pieces and dance the unique style of the Irish, which usually involves tapping one's feet and little upper body movement. Riverdance has been perfected over the years and has evolved Michael Flatley's original show into an epic and modern representation of Ireland's rhythmic spirit. This tour's performance was composed by Bill Whelan and directed by John McColgan.

The current dance troupe for the show is performing specialised tours throughout the world this year, in places such as Australia, Ireland and the U.S. On the Canadian leg of the journey, Riverdance will not only be in Ottawa, but in Toronto, Montreal and Quebec as well. So if travellers are interested in seeing the performance, they can also catch it in several other locales as the dancers hit major cities throughout the country this March, April and June.
