Benefit concerts often last a day and feature a couple of artists gracing the stage, but a fundraising event coming to the Ottawa area this May is set to span over a whole weekend. Country music fans can make plans to take part in the Springtown Hoedown for the Cure from May 4-6, which will benefit the Brain Tumor Foundation of Canada.
This is the first year that the event will be held in honour of a special cause. People come from all around to hear talented artists take the stage and perform great country western music. This year, some of the local acts will include Robert Larisey, Brock Zeman and several skilled DJs who will play in between acts all day long.
The headliner this year will be country music singer Chris Knight. A Kentucky resident, this performer is best known for his song-writing abilities and has been in the alternative country music scene for decades. His most recent album, called "Trailer II," features several new songs, including "Blame Me", "Till My Leavin's Through" and "Bring the Harvest Home".
Besides the concerts, there will be other activities for guests to participate in throughout the weekend. For instance, the hoedown will sponsor a friendly washer tournament that is free to enter and offers cash prizes. The game of washers usually includes teams of two tossing small metal rings into boxes and cups for points. The idea is similar to horseshoes and can be played by anyone who is able to throw small objects.
Festival coordinators aim to keep the weekend intimate and fun, so there will only be 300 tickets available to the public. Passes for the event can be purchased through the hoedown's website and travellers can find out more information through Twitter. Since Springtown is located only a few kilometres outside of Ottawa, attending this celebration of music can be the ultimate way to spend some time relaxing on holiday near Canada's capital city.
The Springtown Hoedown will be a family friendly event that all can enjoy on a travel through Canada excursion which can be a great kickoff to the spring and summer seasons.
