June is an exciting time to take tours of Ottawa, as many of the city's seasonal attractions begin to open their doors for the summer. Families on holiday in Canada's capital, for instance, can spend the day at Saunders Farm, where there is a wealth of activities and attractions that everyone can enjoy together.
This fun facility offers a number of ways to cool off outside and learn more about the way things work. Kids can splash though the water spray zone and playground, or have a blast bouncing on the jumping pillows, which are massive inflatables buried in sand pits. Families can ride together on the pedal cart track or take a car solo to battle it out for first-place bragging rights.
Travellers can use their problem-solving skills while tackling either the cedar or spruce hedge mazes, both of which were created in the 1990s using hundreds of trees. There is an activity zone to keep little ones busy on monkey bars, tire swings and obstacle courses that can teach them teamwork and fitness. Families can learn how to pan for gold, fossils and gems at the Saunders Mining Company, where guests are given a special mystery bag they can sift through to discover treasures to take home.
When it's time to take a break, there are several options for a tasty meal or snack right on the grounds. The Farmers Table is an informal restaurant that will grill up tasty veggie burgers, hot dogs and other classic dishes for hungry guests. Travellers with a sweet tooth can have a soft serve cone or kettle corn at Annabelle's Ice Cream Hut, while those who want to take a tasty souvenir home can visit the Farm Shop and Bakery for homemade cookies or jams.
The official opening date for Saunders Farm is June 2 on weekends throughout the month, then every day until September 3. Guests can purchase individual tickets, annual passes or save money by buying for large groups at special rates. The farm often hosts unique events and concert series throughout the year, so travellers can check the official website for more information. If visiting Ottawa this summer, a trip to Saunders Farm in nearby Munster can be the perfect addition to a memorable holiday in Ontario.
