The suburb of Gloucester, just west of central Ottawa, will be hosting its annual fair from May 24 through the 27, which is sure to be an exciting occasion. Travellers who want to participate will have a blast perusing the food vending stalls, seeing the shows and riding all the classic carnival attractions.
Guests may want to start their day at the fair by visiting the petting zoo. Little ones will be able to get up close and personal with many different animals, such as llamas, sheep, goats and rabbits. If kids prefer scaly creatures to furry ones, they can encounter creepy crawlers at the reptile forest exhibit. Inside the special "Kidz Tent," professional handlers allow patrons to touch snakes and other animals while learning about each species' unique behaviours.
After petting the smaller animals, travellers can see the thrilling horse exhibitions throughout the fair. Dozens of competitors will ride in events such as barrel racing, pole bending, relay races and more. Horses will not be the only animals competing, as there is a dog agility show taking place for man's best friend. Pets will be taken through a special course and judged on their navigational dexterity.
While spending all this time at the fair, travellers will most likely work up a strong appetite. Fortunately, there are several culinary delights to try at the event that will please every palate. For instance, guest can sample some poutine, which is french fries smothered in gravy and cheese curd, at the Cadillac Diner booth. Ottawa Belgian Waffles will be on hand serving up hot and fresh treats covered in an assortment of sweet toppings.
There will also be a professional BBQ competition during the festival. This is the first year that the public will be able to enjoy the grilled meats to help in the judging process.
As the sun goes down, adults will enjoy the array of entertainment options offered on the grounds, such as The GAS Bar and beer garden or the free live concerts featuring talented local artists.
Visiting fairs can be a special occasion for summertime tours of Ottawa, so visitors to this region will not want to miss the Gloucester Fair alongside the other amazing attractions found in and around Canada's capital.
