While the name might be deceiving, Enriched Bread has little to do with fresh-baked baguettes and croissants, but rather showcases studio artists who have quietly made a name for themselves in the Canadian capital. Travellers staying in Ottawa hotels who want to get a feel for what's going on in the city's underground art scene should head to the Enriched Bread Artists' Open Studio, which will take place October 18-21 and October 26-28, 2012.
The painters, sculptors, performers and photographers who display their work at Enriched Bread are national and international ambassadors for culture, whether creating provocative pieces protesting wars or exploring the never-ending boundaries of the human condition.
For the 20th anniversary celebration this year, curators have put together a show featuring works by more than a dozen studio artists, each of whom have made a name for themselves for their thought-provoking work.
Contemporary art lovers who travel through Canada will likely walk through numerous museums and galleries during their holiday, but few will be quite as intimate as the Open Studio.
