While many people who travel to Canada might know and respect the city of Montreal’s fashion sense, Ottawa has recently welcomed several boutique and high-end stores to rival the city to the east. Melow par Melissa Bolduc is one such establishment, where visitors can easily get their fill of avant-garde clothes and accessories for a surprisingly affordable price. Originally a strictly Montreal-based store, Melow expanded its reach to the Canadian capital earlier this year, and residents could not be happier.
The skinny on Melow
The extremely comfortable yet totally chic designs by Melissa Bolduc flatter every body shape, whether shoppers have an hourglass figure or more of a pear-shaped silhouette. The luxurious fabrics drape flawlessly over every curve, and with perfectly placed stitching and asymmetrical patterns, all of the dresses, skirts and shirts make any wearer the centre of attention.
All of the clothing at Melow is made in Canada, which some visitors might think will command a high price. In fact, most of the garments are under $100, so you won't have to pay an arm and a leg for high fashion.
The clothes
Bold is in this season, and Bolduc fully embraces this latest trend with her latest line, which features sharp yellows and deep plum purples. When shoppers buy a dress at Melow, they're not just buying a simple piece of clothing - they're making a purchase that will be a staple of their wardrobe for years, particularly because each textile is made with the highest quality fabrics and stitch work, reducing the risk for fraying and damage caused by excessive washing and wear.
The store
True to the understated and sophisticated designs of Bolduc, the Sussex Drive location is minimalistic and highlights each piece of clothing as if it were a work of art. Mannequins are spaced around the store while fashion photos line the brick-walled interior, giving visitors an idea of how each outfit looks on a real man or woman.
Also on display are magnificent bags by Veinage, another local company, which are not only handmade, but also created with recycled leather. Of course, all of the bags will look fabulous with a new outfit designed by Bolduc.
