Even though event promoters recently announced that this year's Harvest Noir will take place on September 30, its location will remain a mystery until the very last minute. As Ottawa's only pop-up festival, Harvest Noir is an exclusive and secret celebration of fashion, art and high-class culture. There will be vintage bikes. There will be bowl hats. And there will definitely be a dance party.
Anyone staying at Ottawa accommodations at the end of the month should keep their eyes open on the day of the event for people dressed in their best cocktail attire - who knows where or when the flash mob will take place!
The skinny on Harvest Noir
Harvest Noir is the amalgamation of numerous festival promoters and local freethinkers who wanted to create an artsy and unique event that would stand above all others. Using the flash mob mentality, each of Harvest Noir's miniature pop ups leading up to the main event September 30 seem to emerge out of nowhere and disappear as if they were never there to begin with. Even the Secret Picnic is an elusive happening, despite featuring long, white-linen table tops and locally harvested food.
Those who happen to travel to Ontario this September may want to stop in Ottawa on the last day of the month to, at the very least, discover the location of the secret picnic.
The pop-up parade
As if the picnic and dance party weren't enough, Harvest Noir will also feature a pop-up parade led by an awesome funk band. This year's theme for the procession will centre around Alice in Wonderland's Mad Hatter character. Best of all, the participants will be holding glittering sparklers that will dance in the twilight.
The farmers' market flash mob
Before September 30, some Harvest Noir participants will don their best 1950s and '60s fashion and flock to a still-secret farmers’ market location to purchase ingredients for the festival's pop-up picnic.
