Underground music lovers will be more than pleased when they check out the lineup at Raw Sugar Cafe, which is located in the heart of Ottawa's Chinatown district and boasts delicious cafe fare by day and talented artists by night. If travellers want to mingle with locals and get to know what kind of music is popping up in the Canadian capital, they should take a leisurely stroll from their Ottawa accommodations and make their way to Raw Sugar for a night of unfiltered tunes.
Some of the acts that have graced the tiny stage in the cafe have included The Connexions, Thom & the Tomcats, The Yips and the ever-popular Evening Hymns. This folk band also played at the Arboretum Music + Arts Festival and were a major crowd pleaser with their catchy melodies.
October is filling up with equally talented musicians, including Hot Panda, whose contemporary punk songs are a favourite among young Ottawans. Raw Sugar also puts on intimate listening parties like the Stars on Vinyl event on October 6. With the recent release of their new album "The North," which sounds like it was taken straight out of an 80s film, Stars will surely sound spectacular on a vinyl record.
