More than a quarter of a million lights will glow in the capital of the Great White North this holiday season, and anyone staying at a hotel in Ottawa from December 6 to January 7 will be hard-pressed to miss them. First launched in 1985, the Christmas Lights program has since expanded because of its growing popularity.
In Ottawa, the initial celebration will commence with an illumination ceremony outside of Parliament Hill, and visitors are welcome to walk along Confederation Boulevard to treat their eyes to the sights of what could be the best holiday season yet. More than 60 different light sites will light up downtown Ottawa and Gatineau.
Travellers should also warm up their voices weeks before the initial lighting ceremony so they can join the carollers in renditions of their favourite holiday tunes, from "The Christmas Song" and "Jingle Bells" to "Joy to the World" and "Away in a Manger."
