Ottawa restaurants gear up for WinterBites

It is no secret that Ottawa tends to be on the chilly side during the cold winter months, but that does not stop tourists and locals from enjoying some of the Canadian capital's delicious foods. WinterBites 2013 will run from January 10 to 26, and visitors will be able to enjoy some fine food in a prix fixe menu - an easy way to warm up during the harsh winter.
Travellers who find themselves in Ottawa this January may want to check out the restaurants that are involved with the annual event. There are nearly 30 restaurants thus far that are participating in WinterBites. Here are five of the many establishments that will be offering a prix fixe menu this year:
Absinthe: This restaurant has been around since 2003, offering a modern twist on traditional French cuisine. As its name alludes, there are also a series of absinthes served as well as 13 cocktails that are both inventive and delicious. Visitors can expect everything from Korean BBQ Quail to Mariposa Farm Duck Duo on the menu.
Grill 41: This establishment is at the Lord Elgin Hotel, which is in downtown Ottawa. The mix of a fine dining menu with an extensive wine list can leave the vast majority of visitors pleased. The warm and contemporary atmosphere is inviting with a classic menu, comfortable lounge with flat screen TVs.
The Courtyard Restaurant: Since 1980, this restaurant has served as a perfect backdrop to a romantic evening with contemporary cuisine, much of which comes from local farmers and producers. Executive chef Murray Wilson has combined European food with his own contemporary flair.
Napoli's Cafe: Those looking for Italian fare will want to stop at Napoli's Cafe, which is known for its incredible food, attentive service and welcoming ambiance. Enjoy traditional Italian food such as bruschetta and pomodoro con bocconcini while dining in this exquisite restaurant with family and friends.
The Urban Pear: This small location is known for its fresh and ever-changing menu that is complete with some of best Canada has to offer. The menu changes daily, making for a new and exciting trip every time. Its wine list changes quite often as well, and the restaurant makes sure to focus on everything Canadian.
