To many, live music is one of life's simple pleasures, and those who plan to travel to Ottawa get to experience this favourite pastime. Those who want to know where some great places to watch live music are can read on. There are many to choose from, but here are a few for individuals who are looking for some tips when they travel to Canada:
Baylon - 317 Bank Street
This is a great place to find bands and musicians who are just starting out. The talent that comes through Baylon is vastly different and can appeal to a wide range of tastes. This spot has more of a nightclub feel, so those who want a pub-like atmosphere may want to skip Baylon.
Irene's Pub - 885 Bank Street
This venue has been around since 1985, and the iconic pub has seen its fair share of musicians and artists. It is known for bringing in everything from live music to art shows, and it does not shy away from new and different material. The menu serves up traditional pub food with many single malt whiskies.
Zaphod Beeblebrox – 27 York Street
Zaphod Beeblebrox is known as "the nightclub at the end of the universe" and for its showcase for up-and-coming and established acts from across the musical spectrum. The club's mantra is "heard before the herd." One of THE places to hear live music in Ottawa (the club was used to film the Rolling Stones' Streets of Love video in 2005).
Mavericks Bar - 221 Rideau Street
Those who are looking for a mix of great live music and some drinks that are reasonably priced will want to check out this establishment, which is known for both.
Rainbow Bistro - 76 Murray at Parent
This venue is located on the second floor of 76 Murray and has earned its reputation as "Ottawa's Home of the Blues." Here, guests can expect live music every night of the week, while the cover charges are never too expensive. Fans of jazz and blues are unlikely to find another place quite like it in Ottawa.
