It's time to lace up the skates - the Rideau Canal Skateway is open

One of the biggest attractions for those who travel to Ottawa is the Rideau Canal. In the colder months, this beautiful canal turns into the largest skating rink in the world, and all 7.8 kilometres are now open, according to the Ottawa Citizen.
The National Capital Commission recently announced it has opened the last section of the skateway, allowing visitors to skate all the way from downtown Ottawa to Dow's Lake, and it is certainly a fun-filled venture.
The recent extremely cold temperatures made it so the skateway was ready to open, and this weekend is showing the slightest increase in temperature. Those who will be there this upcoming weekend will still need to bundle up even though it will be getting a tad bit warmer. So, grab jackets, mittens, hats and scarves and enjoy a day on the world's largest skating rink with family and friends.
The opening is just in time for the annual Winterlude festival, which will be held February 1 through the 18. The event is full of fun winter-inspired activities, and the canal is one of the many focal points.
