Travellers going to Ottawa may be looking for a number of different things when they visit, but outdoor enthusiasts will find various fun things to do while staying in Canada's capital. There are countless trails and campsites nearby, making it a great spot for those who enjoy spending some time with nature. No matter what time of year people consider travelling to Ottawa, there are several places to see and experience.
Camp Fortune
Those who love to ski may want to take the 15-minute drive from Parliament Hill to Camp Fortune, which has 23 runs for both experienced and beginner skiers. There are also 12 lit runs for those who enjoy night skiing or snowboarding. The resort comes complete with two lounges with all of the amenities that a person would need after spending a day on the slopes. Camp Fortune also offers ski and snowboarding lessons to anyone who is interested - in group or private sessions.
In the summer, Camp Fortune transforms into a place to test mountain biking skills as well as take a turn at disc golf. With breathtaking views and some great trails, it is no wonder that this place attracts a number of outdoor enthusiasts all year long.
Luskville Falls Trail
Just over 30 minutes away from Ottawa, this unique natural habitat is complete with a trail that is both fun and beautiful to experience. The Luskville Falls Trail invites people to stop at the Luskville Falls and then take a break at the Lusk, Pontiac and Fire Tower lookouts. All of these lookouts make it possible for people to enjoy a panoramic view of the Gatineau Hills .
However, this trail can be steep in certain areas and slippery in wet conditions, so it is important for travellers to wear the appropriate shoes and plan their hikes in accordance with the weather.
Madawaska River
There are many points on the Madawaska River where people can enjoy whitewater rafting as well as a number of campsites and other fun outdoor activities. There are several different parts of the river where people enjoy rapids including from Palmer Rapids to Griffith and Aumonds Bay to Buck Bay. Whether it is a traveller's first time canoeing or the person is a whitewater rafting veteran, they will likely enjoy their time on the Madawaska River.
