When it comes to travelling to Ottawa, you may not immediately think of feasting on a fantastic Mexican meal, but it is absolutely possible. Since Canada's capital has a wide range of restaurants - whether a visitor wants to try poutine or a nice Italian meal - there are plenty of places to choose from. Those who get a craving for Mexican while seeing the many attractions may be interested in some of these Ottawa eateries:
Ahora Mexican Cuisine
Known for its many Mexican dishes, Ahora Mexican Cuisine features everything a visitor would want from a Mexican restaurant including nachos, quesadillas, enchiladas and margaritas. This ByWard Market area restaurant also specializes in burritos, as it has an extensive menu filled with variations including the vegetarian version with black beans, cheese, salsa, lettuce and guacamole to the burrito de camarones with shrimp, cheese, red and green peppers, onions, rice, avocado and sour cream.
The Agave Grill brings the flavours of Mexico and the U.S. Southwest to Ottawa with its specialty margaritas and sangria. The menu is filled with delicious items such as the chipotle chicken with melted mixed cheese and chipotle sauce and the carne asada, which is complete with pico de gallo, mixed cheese and chipotle sauce. It also features burritos, enchiladas, fajitas and a special menu for kids. Find it in the Wellington West neighbourhood.
Corazon De Maiz
This Mexican favourite is located in the ByWard Market neighbourhood, and serves fantastic homemade salsa, burritos and an array of other types of Mexican food. Corazon De Maiz is definitely a good place to stop for those who just want a quick bite before they continue on their sight seeing tours. Plus, with its great location, there will be plenty to do around the restaurant after the meal is complete.
Those who are planning on visiting Canada's capital in the summer will likely want to check out Feleena's Cantina in the neighbourhood known as the Glebe. This is a popular spot as the weather warms up, especially because of its massive patio. The restaurant has a great deal of fantastic Mexican cuisine including its mole con pollo, which is a chicken breast in a chocolate chili sauce with flour tortillas; and tequila shrimp chili rellano, a shrimp stuffed poblano pepper with cilantro cream sauce. Besides its specialties, it offers a wide range of classic Mexican food - everything from chimichangas to tamales to tacos.
