Spend a day at Confederation Park in Ottawa

Spend a day at Confederation Park in OttawaWhen it comes to the bustling and beautiful city of Ottawa, there are countless attractions and events worth seeing and attending. Those who are planning on travelling to Ottawa in the near future may want to take a break from the art museums and Parliament buildings and just walk around a park. Confederation Park is the perfect place for tourists and residents alike to take a break from the fast-paced city. Here is more information about this park and what visitors can find there:

What to expect
Confederation Park is right in the heart of downtown Ottawa, and is 2.63 hectares in size. Laurier Avenue West and Ottawa City Hall are south of the park, whereas the Rideau Canal is to the east, and the Mackenzie King Bridge, Rideau Centre and National Arts Centre are to the north. To the west are Elgin Street and the Lord Elgin Hotel, making this the perfect spot for those who are spending their day touring the city to stop and take a break. This is also a focal point of many of the events and festivals held in Ottawa. For instance, visitors can find a great deal going on here during Winterlude, Canada Day celebrations and the Ottawa Jazz Festival.

Monuments in Confederation Park
There are a few monuments and sculptures found in Confederation Park that tourists can visit. The South African War Memorial was created after 30,000 school children donated pennies to make this monument a reality back in 1902. It honours the Canadian volunteers who perished in the South African War from 1899 to 1902. The newest sculpture, the Animals in War Dedication, sits next to the South African War Memorial. This monument was created to honour the animals that lost their lives while fighting alongside Canadians in war.

Restaurants surrounding the park
Since the park is bordered by some of the liveliest streets in the city, it is no wonder that there are plenty of great places to eat. One of the places to check out is the Grill 41 restaurant. This fine dining establishment is found in the Lord Elgin Hotel. It features food for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and is complete with a wide range of entrees to satisfy anyone's cravings. Those who visit this steakhouse will likely leave full and content.
