Many of the adults planning a trip to Ottawa will be travelling with their children, and the city is home to some of the most fun and engaging family-oriented attractions in the entire country. While there are plenty of educational and historic options that many kids and teens will enjoy, parents should consider carving out a kid's day to keep their little ones actively engaged in the trip.
From Funhaven to Cosmic Adventures, the nation's capital city has a variety of attractions that are specifically targeted at children and family groups.
A unique attraction
Have a kid that just can't get enough of reptiles? Then Little Ray's Reptile Zoo is the place to be, as it offers a unique and educational perspective on the lives of these cold blooded creatures. Founded in 1995, this attraction is one of the largest animal rescue and privately-funded zoos in all of Canada, and the owners claim it is the most diverse establishment of its kind in all of Eastern Ontario.
The zoo offers options for birthday parties, groups and families, as well as individuals, while many of the exhibits are interactive. This establishment has won several awards for being fun for any visitor. Anyone who wants to get a hands-on experience with some of the most widely known reptiles in the world should plan a trip to this attraction.
The facilities are home to 25 permanent animal exhibits, while roughly 20 species are featured on a six-month rotation. If watching a trained specialist do all the work isn't enough for your kids, Little Ray's has a public feeding room complete with a 3,000 gallon aquarium and auditorium-style seating. Reptiles aren't the only tenants in the zoo, either, as this establishment has big spiders, birds of prey and marmosets as well.
Little Ray's staff suggests visitors set aside roughly two hours to get the full perspective on all of the more than 150 reptiles and other creatures.
After an educational journey through Little Ray's, parents should consider taking a trip over to the Midway Family Fun Park, which offers 50,000 square feet of interactive games and adventures. From rock climbing and bumper cars to mini golf and arcade games, this establishment offers something for visitors of all ages.
Midway Family Fun Park is accessible via public transportation and is open to the public year round.
