There is a fun local group in Canada's capital city that gathers often to discuss their love of the written word. The Ottawa Independent Writers (OIW) club encourages visitors to attend their various meetings and workshops throughout the year for a small fee without having to commit to a membership. This may be a great way for travellers to mingle with the locals and try something new while on holiday.
For instance, on January 26th, the OIW will host a class on writing a how-to book. Aspiring writers, or those who are simply curious about this particular style, can gain some advice and knowledge from Dr. Denis Cauvier, a professional on composing how-to pieces.
Those who will be in town later on throughout the winter will have other opportunities to attend an array of classes. In March, the OIW has a class on travel writing, which may be perfect for visitors who wish to record their tourism experiences with a new flair and purpose.
All meetings are held at the Library and Archives Canada in Ottawa and welcome guests who have a penchant for pen and ink.
