No matter what month music lovers travel to Ontario, they have an opportunity to hear live music. Thanks to the Ottawa Valley Bluegrass Music Association, or "Valley ‘Grass" as it is more commonly known, those who have an instrument handy can even do a little jamming during their visit up north.
Valley ‘Grass was formed in 1986 and incorporated one year later for the purposes of promoting bluegrass music in the Ottawa Valley. Since 1987, the nonprofit organization has helped expose larger audiences to this form of American roots music through a variety of educational opportunities which are still offered to this day.
While staying at a hotel in Ottawa, travellers can attend one of Valley ‘Grass' monthly jam sessions. On the first Saturday of the month, visitors to Ontario can head to the Montgomery Legion and meet up with fellow bluegrass musicians and play from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Upcoming jam sessions will take place on March 3, April 7 and May 5.
If travellers love bluegrass music, but cannot play, they can still attend two upcoming concerts. On March 19, they can see Grasstowne and Concession perform, or appreciate the sounds of Nothin’ Fancy and High Water on April 23.
