Celebrate spring at the Ottawa Orchid Show

Orchids have long been respected as one of the most beautiful flowers in the plant kingdom. They can be used to celebrate all types of events and festivals, gifted to loved ones or even featured in cuisine. Travellers who have an interest in these blooms and would like to venture to Canada's capital city this spring can spend some time at the Orchidophilia Ottawa- Love of Orchids show while on holiday.

This unique event is in its 31st year and is a popular way to admire and learn about these beautiful flowers. On April 21st and 22nd, the Nepean Sportsplex will blossom with orchids that show off every colour of the rainbow, arranged and organised my members of the Ottawa Orchid Society. There are dozens of species of this flower, and many will be showcased by seasoned growers and newcomers to this pursuit.

Exhibitors who choose to participate will also be judged on their flowers in a variety of categories, including height, colour, and breed. Some will even be measured on their fragrance and unique intensity, sweetness and fresh scent. The officials who will oversee the competition have been certified by the American Orchid Society.

If travellers love to take pictures, they are in luck when they make plans to go to this event. The society welcomes professional and amateur photographers to bring in their equipment on Sunday morning and capture the beauty of these flowers on film. They can be a unique addition to one's personal photo albums, or could be used in a portfolio of expert flower snapshots.
