Straight No Chaser comes to Ottawa this May

A capella music is a classic way to highlight vocal talents of groups or solo acts without any instrumental accompaniment. Travellers who venture to Canada's capital city to take tours of Ottawa this May should also make time to see the group Straight No Chaser perform a capella classics at the Centrepointe Theatre.
This act, comprised of 10 men with a range of vocal skills, has been singing together for more than a decade. Hailing originally from Indiana University, the former students have stayed a solid act through the years and now tour the globe, bringing their unique sound to the masses and making this genre popular and trendy.
Straight No Chaser has released several studio albums, with their first being a popular holiday record that was made famous on YouTube. Most of the members did not expect their college group to reach such success, but they have decided to continue making music and performing live.
"A music career was definitely not on my radar; getting the guys back together, not just for someone's wedding or bachelor party, but to spend the majority of the year together touring and recording, is a dream come true," said original member Randy Stine on the group's website.
Not only do these guys sing well, but their live presence is something special to experience as well. They often blend theatricality into their shows, hamming it up with audience members and interacting with each other like old friends - which they are in real life. Guests to the show may hear some of the act's original tunes and a few of their favourite covers, including Like a Prayer by Madonna, Buddy Holly by Weezer and The Living Years by Mike and the Mechanics.
