There is something special about a car that has lasted through the years and still retains its sleek style, iconic curves and purring motor. Travellers who can't get enough of the open road and are taking tours of Ottawa this June can head over to the ByWard Market Auto Classic, a great event that invites guests of all ages to admire some beautifully restored vehicles from days of old.
This annual celebration is currently in its 16th year and will be hosted by the ByWard Market Business Improvement Area. The event's official Facebook fan page says the show will take place on June 3 along downtown Clarence Street as participants begin to line up their cars in the morning and guests come to admire them throughout the day.
Last year, those who attended were able to check out dozens of automobiles, see live bands and watch as judges decided which were the best classic cars. First place went to Payk Pourzynal for his 1962 GTO Ferrari. Runners up included a 1961 Austin Healy and a vintage 1960s racecar.
Other great features of ByWard Market
While in ByWard market, travellers will have access to some of the city's best shopping, dining and entertainment opportunities as well. Throughout its 150-year history, this hub has changed from a sleepy farmer's market into a big meeting place for locals and tourists alike to admire the history and relax.
For instance, if travellers want to take home a unique souvenir, the A.J. Horton shop sells unique leather and silver jewellery to keep for oneself or take home to loved ones. Maple Leaf Souvenirs & Cigars is ideal for smaller gifts and handmade items.
When it's time to sample some of the city's delicious cuisine, The Blue Cactus restaurant is a popular selection with its use of fresh ingredients and authentic Mexican dishes. Tasty seafood can be had at The Fish Market, while the perfect slice of pie can be found at the Grand Pizzeria & Bar.
A stroll through ByWard Market paired with a visit to the ByWard Market Auto Classic can be a wonderful way to spend the day in Canada's capital city.
