Fall-off-the-bone ribs is a common sight in Canada's capital over the summer as many individuals fire up the grill and backyard barbecue fans perfect the art of grilling. However, if travellers simply want to dig into a delicious meal without all the fuss, they can attend the International Chicken-Rib Cookoff happening at the Sparks Street Mall on June 20-24.
Teams will battle for first place in several categories, such as best rib sauce and tastiest grilled chicken. Last year, groups from Texas, Alabama and Florida took home bragging rights for some of the most superior barbecue around.
Travellers who will be taking tours of Ottawa this summer can order some ribs at several establishments throughout the city even if they miss the cookoff. In the Byward Marketplace is a restaurant called Baton Rouge, where several patrons on TripAdvisor claim that they've sampled top-notch ribs while dining there. Guests can order a half rack with a side of sauteed shrimp or hand-battered chicken tenders.
Although Wild Wings is an Ottawa franchise, it is also a great place to try some slow-cooked ribs or delicious chicken wings with a variety of flavours, including buttermilk dill or maple.
