Bibliophiles who take tours of Ottawa this summer are in luck, as the city will be hosting a special event that highlights the works on some local and talented authors. The Ottawa Small Press Book takes place on June 30 at the Jack Purcell Community Centre and all are welcome to attend to experience the area's literary culture.
Small press books are traditionally produced by publishers that only release a small number of titles a year, which can include comic books, poetry compilations, cook books, graphic novels and narratives. For the festivities in Ottawa, all types of authors will set up exhibits in the centre for the public to peruse and purchase their favourites. This has been an ongoing custom that began in 1994, dreamed up by James Spyker and Rob McLellan when they saw a niche for this kind of event in the city.
Travellers interested in the fair can check back to the event's official blog, as there are often special readings of the material for sale before the occasion takes place.
