In mid-July, a wonderful event will take place that honours the traditions and culture of many locals from the Middle Eastern community. The annual Muslim Summer Festival will incorporate customs from this faith and plenty of fun activities the whole family can enjoy at Britannia Park.
An open invitation for all to enjoy the Muslim Summer Festival
In a letter addressing the Muslim Summer Festival happening in Canada's capital, committee head Osama Adassi said that all are welcome to take part in the exciting festivities offered at this celebratory event.
"The idea of holding the annual Muslim Summer Festival was developed to provide a platform for the citizens of Ottawa to sample our culture and traditions," Adassi wrote on the officials website for the event. "Since the Muslim community is an integral part of the larger community of Ottawa, we feel that it is our responsibility to initiate a constructive and mutually beneficial process of cultural exchange through events such as the Muslim Summer Festival."
What to expect at this event
Roughly 80,000 people who identify themselves as Muslim live within Ottawa's city limits, and hundreds of thousands reside nationwide. Their diverse and vibrant backgrounds will be represented at this occasion, through cultural performances, information booths and delicious ethnic cuisine.
Guests can stop by the various booths that showcase Muslim communities that have a heritage in Guyana, Egypt, Malaysia or Libya, to name a few. Then, they may attend one of the vendors offering tasty Somali barris chicken or samosas that are full of spice. There will be a section for booths that have various items for sale representing the faith, as well as tents that have information about Canadian businesses run by the Muslim community. Travellers with children should not miss the petting zoo area, inflatable bouncy house or henna tattoo demonstrations that can be entertaining for all ages.
More information can be found at the official website about logistics like tickets, parking and how to get to Britannia Park. Canada's capital is full of fantastic summer events, so taking advantage of the seasonal festivities, such as the Muslim Festival, can be a great addition to tours of Ottawa and a memorable holiday.
