Those who plan to travel through Canada this March must make a stop in Ottawa if they have a love of good cuisine. There will be a spectacular and delicious event happening at the National Arts Centre (NAC) that all locals and travellers are welcome to attend if they wish to see some top culinary talent in action.
The Celebrity Chefs of Canada extravaganza on March 25th will feature a wide range of activities and demonstrations to experience, and feature some of the top cooks in the country. This idea, the brainchild of NAC head Chef Michael Blackie, is to gather city-wide foodies and celebrity chefs from Canada to showcase their skills to a live audience. After the cook-off, all those in attendance are welcome to sample some of the unique and delightful dishes the teams of chefs have created.
Starting mid-day, each pair of local and celebrity chefs will work together to present one dish that best represents their styles and talents. Around dinnertime, the food will be offered to those participating in the tasting receptions, with many of the offerings paired with local wines and others prepared Hors d'oeuvres. Lucky guests who want the total experience can continue to party with the featured chefs at the private festivities that continue into the night. There will also be some special desserts presented and a live DJ playing the latest Top 40 hits.
Some of the national celebrity chefs who will be in attendance include Ned Bell from Vancouver's Four Seasons Hotel; Patrick McMurray from Toronto's Star Fish restaurant; and Jason Parsons from the Peller Estates in Niagara. Ottawan chefs who will be cooking include Patricia Larkin, Matthew Carmichael and Clifford Lyness.
Travellers can purchase tickets through the NAC website. They went on sale in December, so those planning on participating may wish to make plans soon, as this is sure to be a popular event. Guests can reserve several packages for the day, including ones that include both the tasting receptions and the live demonstration. This type of event may be perfect for couples looking to attend a show together or families with older children who wish to try some new foods on holiday.
