Japan: Tradition. Innovation. May 20th to October 10th
May 20 through October 10, the Canadian Museum of Civilization presents a spectacular exhibition featuring the cutting edge technology and design of modern Japan – and its deep roots in the past. From revolutionary robotics, to edgy art, trend-setting fashions, and ingenious electronics, Japanese innovation is linked with Japanese tradition across five themes: travel, automation, social status, consumer culture, and entertainment.
Developed in partnership with the National Museum of Japanese History in Sakura, Japan, the exhibition juxtaposes contemporary design with artifacts from the Edo Period, 1603 – 1867. Visitors to the exhibition will see comparisons of modern manga comic books with traditional 19th Century woodblock prints, avant-garde fashions with Samurai armour, and robots to 200-year-old mechanized dolls. Come explore how ancestral influences have shaped contemporary Japanese design – and the world at large. Admission to the exhibition is included with some Ottawa Getaway Packages and tickets are available when you book hotel only.
