Experience some Irish music in Ottawa
Ottawa Travel Guide | Wednesday, 09 November 2011 15:10
The Irish music community in Ottawa will be in full force this fall and winter, offering locals and travellers some amazing opportunities to hear great musical talents from the Emerald Isle. There are two events in particular that are slated to bring the beauty and infectious rhythms of this genre to Canada's capital city, which may make for some interesting and fun travel memories while on a trip to this vibrant region.
Hosted by the First Unitarian Congregation of Ottawa, there will be an evening of Irish songs, stories and more offered by the talented Paddy Keenan and Andrew Hillhouse, says the venue's website. On November 26, these two performers will bring the best of Ireland to the city of Ottawa by demonstrating their skills in singing, playing traditional instruments and telling funny tales of Irish history.
Keenan was honoured with the 2010 Irish Music Association Award and specializes in the Irish whistles and uilleann pipes. He is founding member of The Bothy Band, which was once featured on a postage stamp in Ireland.
Hillhouse will accompany Keenan with vocals and guitar. This musician has also received some prestigious awards, including a Juno recognition for best folk and traditional group. Travellers looking to enjoy a truly unique show while on holiday in Ottawa can purchase tickets to this rustic and inspiring spectacle.
On December 9, there will be another incredible Irish music show occurring at the Centrepointe Theatre. For their 45th anniversary celebration, the Irish Rovers will perform on stage to delight guests with some incredible songs and stories of Ireland's rich traditions and culture.
The venue's website says that this wonderful band has released more than 37 albums in North America during their tenure and has no plans of slowing down their fast-paced career. Original members Wilcil McDowell and George Millar lead the pack of talented musicians that will deliver an unforgettable performance this winter in Ottawa.
Travellers who love to experience new cultures need not go all the way to Ireland to enjoy some authentic and memorable music while on holiday. Not only is Ottawa hosting these shows, but there are many others in town that represent nations across the globe, which guests to the city can participate in for an exciting adventure travel trip.
