See the charming Cat Sanctuary by Ottawa's Parliament Hill

Ottawa Travel Guide | Vendredi, 30 Septembre 2011 17:15

Travellers looking for a unique attraction to explore in Ottawa can check out the area in the back of Parliament Hill. Nestled amongst the trees is a small spot reserved for the residential feral cat population, provided by the local government to ensure the animals' security and well-being within city limits.
Known as the Cat Sanctuary, this complex provides neat rows of tiny houses to the feral cats that roam the city streets, reports Lonely Planet. These animals are usually friendly and unobtrusive, so the government has provided a place for them to take shelter and receive food and water.

According to Parliament Hill's official website, the cat reserve was created in the 1970s and has remained a favourite place for visitors to see the docile creatures. Every day, volunteers offer basic needs to the cats, and the furry friends have diligently returned to this area for generations to the delight of cat lovers in the region.

If visitors taking tours of Ottawa can spare an hour or two, they should take a look at the Cat Sanctuary for an interesting perspective of the caring nature found throughout Canada's capital city.
