ALT Hotel: Ottawa’s Newest Space

Published on

ALT Hotel, which opened just this month, is Ottawa’s newest hotel and meeting venue.

Owned and operated by Le Groupe Germain Hotels, the new Ottawa ALT is located at 185 Slater St. in the city’s downtown core, in close proximity to the iconic Parliament Hill, among other attractions. If simplicity and a hip, modern atmosphere are what you’re after, ALT’s got it. The ALT hotels can be found across Canada and are known for offering guests a no frills, but upscale stay experience.

When you walk in, you’ll be enchanted by ALT’s lobby, which with its bright colours, different textures and natural elements such as exposed concrete and rustic furniture, has a cozy, New York-style vibe. Here, you’ll also find a striped mosaic wall known as ALT Expo, which features 7,000 photographs of famous landmarks and hidden treasures from across Canada. Within the colourful mosaic wall, there are also a few tv screens that offer a live stream of photos that are shared by visitors to ALT’s Instagram account through the hashtag #altexpo.

Also, off to the side of the lobby, you’ll find the lounge-like Altcetera Café, which comes complete with a pool table; making it the perfect place for an after meeting snack, drink and relaxed hangout session. Or if you’ve been out sightseeing all day, this is a good place to recharge before continuing with your evening plans.

Here, you can get a bite to eat along with a pint of locally-made craft beer, a glass of Ontario wine or a specialty coffee or tea of your choice. According to ALT, the Altcetera Café offers meals created from local ingredients that can be enjoyed either in house or on the go. And though the hotel does not offer formal room service, ALT is happy to prepare a meal for a guest if it’s been requested.

In terms of rooms, ALT – who is also a dog-friendly establishment – offers 148 rooms with queen beds; 16 of which are double rooms. Each floor of the hotel is also colour-coded.

Similarly to ALT’s modern lobby, the spacious rooms offer a simple, elegant spa-style vibe. Find a lovely modern décor, a comfortable bed with a goose down duvet, a 48” flat screen tv, a Keurig coffee maker, free WiFi, a large bathroom and much more. And here’s the best part: This brand new hotel along with its great rooms – there’s even a gym – and its prime downtown location is offered at a flat rate of $154 CDN. It’s true! No matter what’s going on in Ottawa, ALT’s room rate does not change.

And remember how we said that ALT is dog-friendly? Just tell them that you’re bringing your four-legged buddy with you and in your room, you’ll find everything that Fido might need. ALT will provide a food bowl, water bowl and even a comfy dog bed. Why should you be the only one to experience luxury on a trip to Ottawa?

Thinking of using ALT to host your next meeting in Ottawa? No problem! The hotel boasts eight different colour-themed meeting rooms including a state-of-the-art ‘Violet Creative Lounge’ and a break room. The Violet Creative Lounge is not your average meeting room. Rather, it offers a more relaxed, conversational atmosphere with comfortable couches, decorative pillows and colourful, modern furniture. This is a meeting room that you won’t mind spending time in!

In total, ALT offers 4,000 square feet of meeting space. And each meeting room comes with all the necessary technology, including televisions, projectors and projection screens as well as WiFi networks and more. Catering services are also available.

But although the newest, ALT is only one of Ottawa’s many accommodations. There are many establishments to choose from; from luxurious hotels to more economic options. That offering will also continue to expand as the Hyatt brand Andaz Ottawa ByWard Market is slated to open later this year on Dalhousie Street and Le Germain Hotel is expected to open just southeast of the CF Rideau Centre in 2017.
