Getting to Ottawa with VIA Rail

Coming to Ottawa for a meeting or a conference this fall or winter? Consider taking the VIA Rail train to get here. You’ll be cozy in your seat as you watch beautiful landscapes go by.

VIA Rail is Canada’s passenger train network, which offers frequent routes to major cities in the Windsor, Ont. and Quebec City corridor. Ottawa is located between Montreal, Que. and Toronto, Ont., making it the perfect train travel destination. Ottawa is a two-hour train ride from Montreal and a five-hour train ride from Toronto. You’ll find several trains per day coming to Ottawa from both destinations. VIA Rail offers 16 daily departures between Toronto and Ottawa and about 12 between Ottawa and Montreal.

Coming to Ottawa for work this fall? Opt to book a seat in VIA Rail’s Business Class train car. On this fare, you’ll enjoy the use of a Business Lounge at the train station, where you’ll find complimentary snacks, refreshments such as coffee and tea and also, complimentary Wi-Fi. This quiet, lounge-like space makes it easy to finish up any last minute office tasks or review a presentation before boarding the train.

When you’re on the train, enjoy a delicious hot meal as well as a selection of complimentary alcoholic beverages. Also in the Business Class car, you’ll find extra room at your seat along with a power outlet and more complimentary Wi-Fi. Additionally in this type of train car, you’ll find seats that face each other as well as extra space, which makes it easy for your team to continue working together while on board.

Recently, VIA Rail has been working to improve its passenger cars. According to VIA Rail’s website, the improvements include redesigned, more modern interiors that aim to make passengers’ trips more enjoyable from beginning to end. The Business Class cars also now offer single seating options, VIA Rail said. There are also enhanced accessibility features to make the trip easier for those with reduced mobility and special needs.

In terms of the cars themselves, VIA Rail noted that they’ve been improved for environmental efficiency. The improvements, VIA Rail said, also include a reduction in maintenance costs and greenhouse gas emissions.

If you’re coming to Ottawa for a conference or a meeting, consider extending your stay by a few days. Each Wednesday, VIA Rail puts Weekend Getaway Deals up on its website to various Canadian destinations, including Ottawa. The offered deals feature a round-trip ticket at a reduced fare. Start your trip to Ottawa with business and end it with a little bit of fun.

In Ottawa, the main VIA Rail train station is located at 200 Tremblay Rd.; just a short 10-minute taxi ride from Ottawa’s downtown core. You’ll also find the smaller Fallowfield train station in Barrhaven, just west of the downtown core.
