Ottawa promises to be even brighter and better than usual this December, with lots of free activities the whole family can enjoy! Colourful lights, ice skating and fun celebrations are taking over Parliament Hill and other sites in Canada’s Capital. You’ll definitely want to add these events to your December to-do list:
Christmas Lights Across Canada: Dec. 7, 2017 – Jan. 7, 2018
Each year, Ottawa ushers in the holiday season by displaying hundreds of thousands of dazzling lights throughout downtown thanks to the Christmas Lights Across Canada program. Make sure to visit Parliament Hill to catch the winter lightscapes multimedia show – an entertaining fairy tale projected onto Centre Block that runs in a 13-minute loop. Cuddle by the Centennial Flame and enjoy the show!
Canada 150 Ice Rink: Dec. 7, 2017– Feb. 28, 2018
Add this to your Canadian bucket list: skating on the first ever skating rink in front of Parliament Hill! Lace up your skates and enjoy free ice time as well as a variety of other wintry activities and special events for young and old. On Dec. 10, the site will also be the focal point for Canada 150 Skating Day. Don’t miss this once in a lifetime experience!
New Years Eve on Parliament Hill: Dec. 31, 2017
As Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation comes to an end, the celebrations continue! Ring in the new year in true Canadian style by gathering with friends and family on Parliament Hill for a countdown to midnight and astonishing bursts of colour on historic buildings. Additional details to be announced by Canadian Heritage.
