Diefenbunker: Canada’s Cold War Museum
A relic of the Cold War, this 4-storey underground bunker was the epicentre of Canada’s defense against nuclear attack. Now a National Historic Site, this atomic-age artifact reminds us that we once teetered at the brink of global annihilation, but cooler heads prevailed. Today, we remember these lessons of peaceful resolution and preserve them for future generations through year-round exhibitions, programs and events that offer visitors of all ages a chilling glimpse into Canada’s past. Tours of this unique facility take visitors through recreations of government work spaces, living quarters and cryptographic areas. Highlights include the Prime Minister’s Suite, the War Cabinet and the Bank of Canada Vault. Public Tours are offered year-round in English and French. An exciting selection of souvenirs is also available in the Cold War Store! For reservations call 613-839-0007. Bilingual audio guides are also available on loan.
