If there’s one place you want to be this New Year’s Eve, it’s Ottawa! Taking place on the historic Parliament Hill, the Canada 150 Kick Off will usher in 2017 and kick off celebrations for Canada’s 150th anniversary year all across the country. Get ready to celebrate all night! And the best part? This major event is free.
Please avoid driving into the downtown core on New Years Eve. Due to all the road closures it is best to take advantage of the free service by OC Transpo which begins at 4:30 pm December 31st and runs through 3:00 am January 1st.
- The festivities on Parliament Hill will begin at 7:00 p.m. with host Isabelle Racicot. The evening will start with a Peace Tower Carillon concert, a special national ceremony attended by dignitaries as well as Olympic and Paralympic athletes and the singing of the national anthem.
- There will be two fireworks displays. At 8:17 p.m. or 20:17, a pyromusical display will light up the sky. Then at midnight, a traditional fireworks display will take place.
- After the first fireworks display, Canadian artists will take the stage. The performances will start with Acadian duo Radio Radio, who will then be followed by Alberta country music singer Brett Kissel. Then Grammy- and JUNO-nominated singer Carly Rae Jepsen will take the stage to usher in 2017.
- Make sure to get to Parliament Hill early as security measures will be in place.
