The apparel, shoes and accessories retailer, which carries luxury brands such as Michael Kors, Tory Burch, Coach, Valentino and Prada among many others, came into the city just as Ottawa’s other luxury department store Holt Renfrew closed its doors. Occupying two floors in the CF Rideau Centre, where Eaton’s and Sears Canada once stood, Nordstrom is part of the downtown shopping centre’s $360-million, 180,000-square-foot expansion that has also seen high-end retailers such as Tiffany & Co. and Kate Spade New York open their doors. The CF Rideau Centre will also become home to high-end shoe retailer Stuart Weitzman in the coming months.
If you haven’t been to CF Rideau Centre in the past three years, you wouldn’t recognise it. And here, you’ll be sure to find great fall fashions! From boots to cozy wool sweaters, CF Rideau Centre’s retailers will be able to help you find what you’re looking for.
If you’re heading to Ottawa on a shopping getaway, Nordstrom is a great place to start your trip. Currently, the Ottawa Nordstrom is the only store of its kind in Eastern Canada. Here, you’ll find a wide selection of beauty products, jewellery, shoes, bags, clothing and more. And don’t let the high-end ‘Nordstrom’ name intimidate you. Though this department store is known for luxury items, head to the second floor where near the escalator, you’ll find great affordable accessories and clothing items from brands such as Lush.
Nordstrom is also the perfect place for a girls’ shopping getaway, as it offers girlfriends-style change rooms. Though private, these new change rooms feature magnetic curtains that when pulled apart, make it easy to get your friend’s opinion on a new outfit. Ask them what they think without having to step out of the comfort of your own change room.
And if all of this fall shopping is making you a bit tired, Nordstrom can help with that too. On the first floor, you’ll find a coffee and espresso bar. Grab a latte and get the caffeine jolt you need to keep exploring the newly renovated CF Rideau Centre.
Over the past few years, “Rideau” as it’s known locally, has seen the addition of other retailers such as Pandora, J.Crew, Zara, Judith & Charles, BCBG, Victoria’s Secret and Sephora, among others. Summer 2016 will see the CF Rideau Centre opening of Simons, a popular Quebec-based department store.
And if coffee isn’t enough to keep you going, head to the shopping mall’s new dining hall for a quick bite. Opened just last summer, the brightly-lit dining hall is on the CF Rideau Centre’s main floor, offering 16 different food vendors and seating for 850. Here, you’ll also find an upscale food court experience, as the dining hall offers solid flatware and real cutlery. You won’t find any plastic utensils here!
With all of these new stores, Ottawa is a great place to indulge in a little retail therapy this coming fall season. Take off for a few days on a romantic getaway and get a bit of shopping in, or plan an exciting weekend trip with the girls. You can start your shopping at CF Rideau Centre, then head out into the ByWard Market neighbourhood or onto the prestigious Sussex Drive, which is known as Ottawa’s high fashion row.
