The showdown in O-town has begun! Last night, Ottawa’s hometown hockey team, the Ottawa Senators, fought hard in their first test on the way to the Stanley Cup – the most coveted of hockey trophies – against their rivals, the Montreal Canadiens. In a game that resulted in a 4-3 victory for the Canadiens, both teams showed that there’s nothing quite like playoff hockey!
To kick off the battle for the beloved Stanley Cup, Ottawa Tourism and Tourisme Montréal have put forward a little friendly Sens vs. Habs wager. Here’s how it’s going to work: whichever city loses the first round of the 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs has to send the victorious city’s tourism bureau a congratulatory gift pack, full of the best gourmet items the losing city’s vendors have to offer. Anyone in Ottawa have a sudden craving for smoked meat?
This wager resembles the playoff bet made between Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson and Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre. In this bet, the losing city’s mayor has to wear the victorious city’s team jersey to a city council meeting as well as fly the winning team’s flag at City Hall for a whole week. According to the Montreal Gazette, this wager also involves BeaverTails pastries and Montreal smoked meat!
To be a part of the wager action, get on Twitter and follow the hashtag #MTLvsOTT. You can be sure that both Ottawa Tourism (@Ottawa_Tourism) and Tourisme Montréal (@Montreal) will be online cheering for their home teams. Also, if you have any special playoff moments, share them with us at #MyOttawa. May the best team win! And of course… GO SENS GO!!!
