If you’ve been to Ottawa over the past few years, you may have noticed that CF Rideau Centre – Ottawa’s downtown shopping mall has been undergoing some big changes, including a new structure that will extend the mall down Rideau Street, towards Nicholas Street.
Last fall, Rideau Centre announced the opening of several new high-end retailers, including Tiffany & Co., Kate Spade, Stuart Weitzman and the much anticipated Nordstrom, among others. But those are only a small portion of what the shopping mall’s owner, Cadillac Fairview, has planned.
Moving into the spring through to the summer, with the opening of Rideau Centre’s new façade, which was originally the home of Ogilvy’s department store in 1907, shoppers will gain access to several new stores by Aug. 11, 2016. CF Rideau Centre’s newly opened wing is home to 21 new stores that are spread out across four floors! You can learn more about some of the new stores here:
H&M – Flagship store:
Popular around the world, H&M offers affordable clothing, shoes and accessories for women, men and children. Here, you’ll also find interesting home items such as candles, rugs, servingware and more. H&M is known for its modern and youthful style.
This will be Ottawa’s third, but largest H&M location! The company previously opened two locations in the east and west ends of Ottawa in the Place d’Orleans and Bayshore shopping centres.
Zara – Flagship store:
Zara was housed on the Rideau Centre’s third floor. But it has since moved to the mall’s newly expanded section, becoming a flagship store. This larger location offers men and women’s clothing, as well as children’s clothing and home items, which it wasn’t able to offer before. Like H&M, Zara is also well-known around the world.
Similarly to H&M, this Quebec-based department store is also known for its affordable fashions for women, men and kids. Simons first opened in Quebec 176 years ago. The department store also offers home accessories such as linens, pillows, kitchenware and more.
The CF Rideau Centre location, which opened on Aug. 11, 2016, is the second Ottawa location, as the retailer first opened its doors last fall just across the Ottawa River at Les Promenades mall in Gatineau, Que. One aspect that’s unique to the Ottawa location is an impressive art piece that hangs above the new store’s escalators. The 22-foot sculpture entitled Torrential Red was created by Canadian artist Shayne Dark, who resides in Kingston, Ont. According to website Ottawa At Home, the sculpture is made out of Ironwood pieces the artist found near his home. Each Simons location has its own unique art piece.
Anthropologie is part of CF Rideau Centre’s brand new wing! This United States-based retailer operates more than 200 stores around the world. Catering to women, Anthropologie offers clothing and accessories as well as home furnishings, décor items and unique gifts. This is the first Anthropologie location in Ottawa!
Also opening in the Rideau Centre’s newly expanded section, this Spanish retailer offers classic clothing pieces for men and women. This is where you’ll want to go to find items such as tailored blazers, soft cashmere sweaters, as well as more luxurious pieces like silk handkerchiefs and bow ties. You’ll also find unique footwear designed with an urban lifestyle in mind.
This high-end women and men’s brand will open just around the corner from Nordstrom beside Michael Kors. London-based, Ted Baker offers everything from high-end jackets and coats, to dresses, t-shirts and active wear. Here, you’ll also find beautiful classic bags, from leather backpacks to small clutches. Ted Baker is now open at CF Rideau Centre.
Now open at CF Rideau Centre on the main floor, terra20 offers products that promote a healthy, sustainable lifestyle. Here, you’ll find natural skin and bath products for adults as well as children, natural cleaning products, healthy snacks and more.
Construction at CF Rideau Centre is expected to be complete in September 2016. And once complete, the mall’s new façade will also reveal a beautiful mural that will be lit up at night.
