In an interview with Ottawa Tourism, Laplante, who is the Vice-President at 417 Bus Line Ltd., said that when he found out about all the great things going on in 2017, he knew that he had to be a part of the celebration.
“I contacted Guy Laflamme and asked if we could work together,” Laplante said. Laflamme is the Executive Director at Ottawa 2017, the bureau who is spearheading much of Ottawa’s exciting 2017 celebrations. From that conversation, Laplante said, three special 2017-themed buses were formed.
Laplante noted that for now, two buses are being used for commuter routes and the third one is on a route that goes between Canada and the United States. “That one does a lot of charters,” Laplante said. “The visibility for Ottawa is fantastic.”
Laplante noted that Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson is a fan of the themed buses. He said that when one of the buses was unveiled, Mayor Watson climbed aboard and had a great time using the air horn. “He was a happy camper,” he said.
Once 2017 actually arrives however, Laplante said the special buses would be used for sightseeing tours throughout the city. “We’ll offer sightseeing tours to show people what we have in Ottawa and in the surrounding region,” he said, adding that the buses will also go out to the charming rural regions of Montebello and Vankleek Hill, among others. Laplante noted that the tours will be great for those who fly into Ottawa during 2017 and need transportation. He added that the sightseeing tours will start up in the spring of 2017 and continue throughout the year. “It should be very busy,” he said.
In terms of Laplante’s favourite thing about Ottawa, he said that for him, it’s the Ottawa Senators. “I’m a hockey fan,” he said. The Ottawa Senators are Ottawa’s National Hockey League (NHL) team. They play at Canadian Tire Centre from roughly early October through April.
But for those visiting Ottawa, Laplante noted that Parliament Hill and the beautiful Rideau Canal are not to be missed. Did you know that the Rideau Canal is Ontario’s only UNESCO World Heritage Site? Also, free guided tours of Parliament Hill’s iconic Centre Block are available daily. “The Parliament Buildings are one of the top attractions,” Laplante said. “Also, the Rideau Canal is very beautiful, specially in the summer.” Laplante added that many visitors to Ottawa also enjoy how clean the city is. “They always say the same thing,” Laplante noted. “It’s a very clean city. It’s beautiful.”
Interested in visiting Ottawa in 2017 and going on a 417 Bus Line sightseeing tour? Laplante said that tours can be booked through Ottawa Tourism and through Ottawa 2017. He added that tours can be booked on both an individual and a group basis. “We’re very proud to be an official partner of Ottawa 2017,” Laplante said. “We’ll do our best to accommodate everyone who comes to Ottawa.” He noted that 417 Bus Line has various vehicles available, from seven-passenger vans to 56-passenger motorcoaches.
