May through September, come cheer on Ottawa’s newest sports team; the Ottawa Champions! Ottawa’s minor Can-Am League baseball team plays its home games at Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton Park, which is also known locally as “RCGT Park.” Get dressed up in royal blue and cheer for the “Champs” as they take on teams from neighbouring Québec and the United States.
- The Champs kicked off their inaugural Can-Am League season on May 22, 2015 in Ottawa against the Sussex County Miners.
- The current Can-Am League is comprised of seven baseball teams from Ottawa, Rockland, Trois-Rivières, New Jersey, Sussex County and Garden State.
- Some of the Ottawa Champions’ players have come from Major League baseball teams such as the Toronto Blue Jays and the Los Angeles Angels. Jon Talley, Chris Cox and Nick Purdy were part of the Blue Jays, while new Champions pitcher Joshua Blanco was originally drafted by the Angels.
- Ottawa Champions tickets are available online at ottawachampions.com or by phone at 613-745-BALL, for those looking to take in a baseball game during their stay in Ottawa.
