Taking place earlier in the evening on Dec. 31, this is Ottawa 2017’s New Year’s Eve celebration. Head to Ottawa City Hall (110 Laurier Ave.) for this family-friendly event that will welcome 2017, Canada’s 150th anniversary year. This event is free.
Please avoid driving into the downtown core on New Years Eve. Due to all the road closures it is best to take advantage of the free service by OC Transpo which begins at 4:30 pm December 31st and runs through 3:00 am January 1st.
- Be at Ottawa City Hall for the official lighting of a new, gas-powered 2017 cauldron. The cauldron, which is approximately 16 feet high and 13 feet wide, is located near the memorial fountain next to Laurier Avenue.
- Once the cauldron is lit, young students will form a human chain to symbolize youthful optimism. The chain will make its way through Ottawa’s downtown core to Parliament Hill.
- More details to come.
