May 27-28, 2017
Join thousands of runners from around the world for Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend! During the final weekend of May each year, children, youth, and veteran runners alike participate in six individual race events including a two-kilometre run, a 10k and a marathon. The centrepiece of the weekend is the prestigious Ottawa Marathon. As the largest marathon in Canada, and cited as one of the must-run routes, it attracts some of the best runners from all corners of the globe.
If watching is more your sport, you’ll enjoy great opportunities to see the athletes run by many of Ottawa’s major landmarks, especially during the marathon. The weekend also features special festivities including live music and a beer garden!
- Ottawa Race Weekend is the biggest multi-distance race event in Canada and has the largest marathon in Canada. Close to 50,000 runners participate each year and tens of thousands of spectators take in the action.
- Ottawa Race Weekend is the only running event in North America and only one of two in the world to host two International Amateur Athletics Federations (IAAF) Gold label events: the Scotiabank Ottawa Marathon and the Ottawa 10K.
- Runners can participate in any of the six official races: the marathon, the half marathon, the 10K, the 5K, the 2K and the kid’s marathon. Participants can raise money through the Scotiabank Charity Challenge which has raised over $53 million since it began in 2003.
- All events take runners along Ottawa’s Rideau Canal, with the Ottawa Marathon extending across the Ottawa River to the city of Gatineau in the province of Quebec, then back again – passing many landmark sites, including Parliament Hill, along the way.
