With the help of these five idyllic locations, you might just be able to seal your evening with a kiss!
This point is located behind the National Gallery of Canada and is easily accessible by foot, just a 15-minute walk from many downtown Ottawa hotels. Cuddle up and take in a spectacular view of Ottawa’s skyline, the historic Parliament Buildings and the Ottawa River. And if you look towards the Gatineau, Québec side of the river, you can take in beautiful views of the intricately designed Canadian Museum of History. This site is popular year-round, but is especially magical in the fall, as it provides great views of the city and the glowing, brightly-coloured autumn leaves!
The scenic Champlain Lookout is located in Gatineau Park, just a short 20-minute drive north of Ottawa’s downtown core. This beautiful daytime spot is located atop the park’s Eardley Escarpment, which is 335 metres (1,099 feet) above sea level. Relax for a while and take in a beautiful view of the Gatineau Hills as well as the Ottawa Valley. This is also THE place to see the Ottawa-Gatineau region’s fall colours. Be sure to bring your camera!
This pedestrian bridge stretches over Ottawa’s Rideau Canal, connecting the University of Ottawa campus to Somerset Street West. To the north, enjoy a beautiful view of Ottawa’s downtown core and the Fairmont Château Laurier hotel. This spot is a romantic nighttime locale in every season! In the warmer months, take in the city lights as they are reflected off of the still water and watch boats quietly sailing by. In winter, watch ice skaters gliding effortlessly down the canal’s frozen surface. The Corktown Footbridge is also locally known as the ‘Love Locks’ bridge, where couples young and old proclaim their everlasting love for each other by fastening a padlock onto the bridge’s railing and throwing the keys into the canal.
The grounds of Parliament Hill are worth a visit in the evening, after most of the tourists and politicians have gone home. Stroll along the Hill’s paved pathways and take in lovely views of the softly lit Centre Block and the Peace Tower. Huddle close together and enjoy the heat of the ever-burning Centennial Flame, or take a walk behind Centre Block to take in beautiful panoramic views of the Ottawa River and the distant Gatineau Hills.
The Whispering Wall monument is also worth a visit! Located to the east of Centre Block, this monument allows couples to whisper sweet nothings to each other discreetly. If you sit at one end of the curved wall and another person sits on the opposite end, you will be able to hear exactly what the other person is saying as if you were sitting side by side.
